This is a beautiful walk along little Andean villages towards the Puma Orqo’s rock. Where it is said took place the brothers Ayar’s legend, (myth which explains the foundation of the Inca empire)
This mystic tour ends in the Mauk’allaqta’s archeological pre-Inca center. Where archeologists’ team has been working in during their put in value.

ACCESS FROM THE CUSCO CITY ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA OF MAUK’ALLAQTA

The archaeological site has a main access road from Cusco. On the south east side of the Huancaro urbanization, on the road that leads to the province of Paruro. From Cusco to Yaurisque; It has a distance of 36.5 kilometers of route. From Yaurisque one descends by road to the west parallel to the Yaurisque river, to the former hacienda of Huaynacancha. with a 5 km route. Then take a horseshoe path to the South-East, starting at the Huayna Cancha farm, cross the adjacent stream and climb Zigzagging on the immediate slope until you reach the archaeological site of Mauk’allaqta. The altitude along this route varies between 2900 M.A.S.L and 3350 M.A.S.L.

    MAUK’ALLAQTA

    From the original Quechua Mauk’allaqta, also called Maukallaqta or Maucallaqta, known as the archaeological complex of Mauk’allaqta or the restored citadel of Mauk’allaqta. It is one of the tourist attractions of the Paccaritambo district, within the province of Paruro, in the department of Cusco. This archaeological complex has in its territory pre-Hispanic buildings that are located on the slopes of a hill, divided into three parts the complex presents a variety of buildings among which stand out: the large number of chullpas especially one that measures more than three meters approximately, squares, Temples of which the double jamb cover stands out, Patios.
    Mauk’allaqta is also known for the celebration of the legend of the Ayar brothers which gave rise to the function of the Inca Empire and music and dance festivals.

    • Pre-departure briefing: You will meet your guide and group in our office, for an orientation trek and provide you the duffle bags which will be carried by our horses. meeting at 6:00 PM the evening before the trip begins.

    • Camping equipment: Dining and kitchen tents, tables, chairs.
    • Foam mats or sleeping pads: to put under your sleeping bag (carried by horses)
    • Accommodation: 1 night in tent
    • 1 Duffle Bag: Where you can put your personal belongings (7 kilograms = 15 lbs) which includes your sleeping bag.
    • Trekking Cook: In charge to prepared all the meals along the journey, over 6 people cook assistant
    • Meals: 6 Breakfasts, 6 Lunches, 6 dinners and Snacks (Vegetarian, vegan or special menus are available at no extra cost)
    • Wake up tea: Every morning at the campsite we will wake you up with a cup of coca tea our support staff will bring the coca tea to your tent in order to wake you up.
    • Tea time = Happy Hour: Every afternoon 1 hour before dinner the cooks will let on the dining table pop-corn, biscuits, coffee, chocolate, different type of teas, hot water, etc. this is because after a day of hiking many are hungry and it is a bit annoying to wait till dinner that why we provide tea time.
    • Daily snacks – Days 1, 2: Our Snacks consist of local fruits, biscuits, chocolate, Caramels we will give this snack at the beginning of each day trek in a cloth bag to avoid environmental contamination.
    • One textile snack bag per person: to avoid the usage of plastic bags that contaminate our environment
    • Water grooming: Each morning warm water with towel
    • 1 Blanket or Liner

      First Day on PREINCA TRAIL TO MAUK’ALLAQTA: Cusco Yaurisque Pallata Puma Orqo – Maucallacta Stretch
      Transfer from Cusco to Yaurisque, starting point of the trek. Optional visit to the hot springs close to Yaurisque. From there we`ll begin this very mystic tour about which we can say it is a walking towards the origin of this great empire. We`ll walk around Andean landscapes on which we`ll visit the Pallata’s archeological remains, going downwards to Puma Orqo, rock carved with pumas. Advancing an hour more, we arrive to Maucallaqta. We camp close to the archeological site.

      After a restoring breakfast, we`ll begin a guided visit to the Maucallacta’s archeological center. Lunch. Next we walk downwards to the Huaynacancha Hacienda to take the transportation back to the Cusco.

    Mauk’allaqta The archaeological monument is located on the banks of the Apurímac River at 3360 meters above sea level, Maukallaqta is divided into 5 sectors, among which we have the esplanade of "Plaza Pampa", the incomparable "Yoraq Torreyoq", the elevated "Pukara", the extraordinary "Pukara Khepa", and the silent Aqotambo.
