INCA JUNGLE TO MACHU PICCHU 4 days / 3 nights INTRODUCTION:

INCA JUNGLE TO MACHU PICCHU ADVENTURE – BIKING AND TREKKING EXPERIENCE

Machu Picchu. Imbued in a magical silence,120km (74mi) away from Cusco, on the slopes above the Urubamba River, lies one of the world`s most extraordinary archaeological sites: Machu Picchu (2400m / 7872ft). Is probably the most familiar symbol of the Inca Empire. It is thought that the city was built by the Sapaq Inca Pachacutec, starting about the year 1440,and was inhabited until the Spanish conquest of Perù in 1532. Archaeological evidence (along with recent work on early colonial documents) shows that Machu Picchu was not a conventional city, but a country retreating town for the Inca nobility. The site has a large palace and temples dedicated to Inca deities around a courtyard, with other buildings for the supporting staff. It is estimated that a maximum of only 750 people dwelt in Machu Picchu at one time, and probably only a small fraction of that number lived in the town during the rainy season and when none of the nobility were visiting.
Machu Picchu, its name comes from the ancient Quechua word that means “old mountain”. This site was built entirely of stone, using every space in harmony with functionalism. Machu Picchu has been known as the “lost city of the incas”.
The most common way is to take the train to Machu Picchu in the morning, explore the ruins and in the afternoon, returning to Cusco. And other better option is to stay overnight in Aguas Calientes in order to get very early at the complex.
Machu Picchu is a trip very deep towards the serenity of the soul, to the eternal fusion with the cosmos. There we are able to feel our own fragility. It is one of the greatest marvels of South America. A resting place of butterflies at the epicenter of the great circle of life. “One more miracle”, as the poet Pablo Neruda wrote.

For this trip, we recommend a backpack that can hold between 25-60 kilograms (55-132 lbs) with clothes that are only necessary for the 4 days of the trip. The rest of your luggage will be left in a storeroom at your hotel/hostel in Cusco . It is extremely important to only bring what is necessary for the 4 days that you will be trekking because on the second or third day, you will have to carry your backpack.

The tour package includes 3 nights of accommodation.

On the first night, we will provide rooms with a maximum capacity of 4 people. Private bathrooms and a cold shower are included.

On the second night, we will provide rooms with a maximum capacity of 4 people. Private bathrooms and a hot shower are included.

On the third night, double or triple rooms will be provided. Private bathrooms, hot shower and Wi-Fi are included.

Please note: If you would like to require a private room for the first or second night, you can visit our office before starting the tour.

On the tour, there is a total of 3 hours of downhill biking. 95% of the road is downhill and
paved. Therefore, the cycling part of the tour is not difficult. Only basic to intermediate experience is required.

To climb of the Huayna Picchu Mountains, you must buy a ticket in advance. Huaynapicchu has an additional cost of $ 20 USD per person to the admission ticket to Machu Picchu, and it is recommended to book the tickets at least 3-4 months in advance.

During the first two hours (the cycling route) it will be quite cold because we will be at a high altitude. After those two hours, and for the rest of the tour, the weather will be warm and humid (during the night as well). The temperature in the morning varies between 18-25 degrees Celsius (64 – 77 degrees Fahrenheit). During the months of June, July and August, the temperature can reach 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). At night, the minimum temperature is 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit) with a maximum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius (64 degrees Fahrenheit). Therefore, we recommend that you bring light clothes.

You can make a deposit on our website in order to confirm your reservation. It is very important to confirm available spaces before making the deposit. The leftover balance should be paid in cash (dollars or soles) in our office in Cusco.

There are two options for your return trip to Cusco. The most popular and safe option is the train. The second, and more affordable option, is by car.

By train: There are two options if you chose to travel by train. The first is from Machupicchu town to Cuscu (about 4 hours of travel) and the second option is from Machupicchu Town to Ollantaytambo (about 2 hours of travel). From the station in Ollantaytambo, it is very easy and affordable ($5 USD) to find a car that will take you straight to Cusco (in total, about 3 ½ hours of travel)

To see train availability and prices, please visit: www.perurail.com / www.incarail.com

By car: If you wish to return by car, you must first walk for 3 hours from Machupicchu Town to the hydroelectric power plant. At the power plant, there are cars waiting to take passengers to Cusco. The price to get to Cusco is about $20-25 USD and the trip takes around 7 hours. The disadvantage of returning to Cusco in a car is that you will have to leave the archaeological ruins of Machupicchu no later than 10am.

Please note: this option is only available from April to December. From December to March, this option is not recommended due to levels of high risk.
